Sustainable technology for people

The world is facing serious challenges in relation to utilization of the resources of the planet. These are challenges that have consequences for future life on earth. This necessitates innovative thinking and other solutions than those that created the challenges in the first place.
Safeguarding the resources of the planet
In line with an increase in the global population and a resulting increasing need for raw materials, clean water, food, housing, heating, lighting, transport, and interaction, the demand for the world’s scarce resources will grow.
This has meant, among other actions, that United Nations (UN) has formulated 17 Sustainable Development Goals and 169 targets for sustainable development. These goals have been embraced by many companies, organizations, and governments.
The Sustainable Development Goals can thus be seen as an expression of the need to change direction in the way we exploit and distribute the resources of the planet.
If we want to contribute to a development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs, we must safeguard the scarce resources of the planet and develop new solutions to the global challenges that we are facing. We must ensure a sustainable development.
Technologies for sustainable development
Sustainable development must reduce climate impacts and ensure the balanced use of resources. This includes the use of renewable and fossil-free energy and reducing CO2 levels in the atmosphere. Some of the solutions DTU is currently working on are:
